International and Area Studies (IAS) : Japanese Studies

Japanese Studies Collection Description

Japan has a long and interesting history, with a distinctive culture that has fascinated foreigners since the country opened their gate to the outside world in 1854. It experienced an amazing recovery from the damage of WW II and grew into one of the world's largest economies and a technology leader; its innovative modern society drew many foreigners to study about Japan to find out its secrets. That fascination rekindled recently with Japanese Animation and so called “cool Japan”. There are still many topics to explore in Japanese studies.
