Library Guide for Cite-Checkers : Newspapers

This guide presents resources and strategies to assist students with citation checking, emphasizing sources that provide pdf images of documents wherever possible.

Tips for Locating Newspaper Articles

To determine whether a specific newspaper is available electonically, use the 'Articles by Citation' link on the Law Libary's home page. Search for the title of the newspaper (not the individual article) to retrieve a listing of UW Madison subscriptions as well as the years of coverage.

The ProQuest Historical Newspaper databases provide PDF format but most newspaper articles are in HTML format. Generally, the UW Law Library will not place an inter-library loan request for print or microform copies of newspaper articles due to the time it takes the lending library staff to search these formats.  If none of the UW Madison libraries hold a print or microfilm copy of  the newspaper and if there is not an electronic copy readily available, we wil try to purchase archival copies directly from the publisher.  The managing editors should email docdel@law.wisc.edu for assistance.
