What is Research at UW-Madison?

Research at UW-Madison is a searchable website used to identify research and research projects, foster research collaborations, and highlight the achievements of UW-Madison scholars. Profiles (aka Research Insight profiles) are available for current tenured and tenure-track professors, recent emeritus faculty, clinical health science faculty, permanent principal investigators, and other scholars that have had profiles in the WARF Discovery Portal.

What are the benefits and limitations of Research at UW-Madison profiles?

Benefits:

  • It's free!
  • Links you to your scholarly contributions, in spite of name variations, name changes, or others having a name identical to yours (i.e., having a Research at UW-Madison profile helps to mitigate name ambiguity)
  • Increases the discoverability of your research outputs (if your profile is set to public)
  • Links you to other scholars in your field at UW-Madison

Limitations:

  • Profiles are only available for current tenured and tenure-track professors, recent emeritus faculty, clinical health science faculty, permanent principal investigators, and other scholars that have had profiles in the WARF Discovery Portal
  • Research at UW-Madison profiles do not have Author IDs like ORCID and Scopus
  • Automatic updates can be subject to error (e.g., incorrect publications may be assigned to your profile) and thus requires occasional review
  • Some changes to your profile must be submitted for review and approval

How do I get a Research at UW-Madison profile?

No action is required to get a Research at UW-Madison profile. Profiles are automatically generated by Research at UW-Madison for current tenured and tenure-track professors, recent emeritus faculty, clinical health science faculty, permanent principal investigators, and other scholars that have had profiles in the WARF Discovery Portal.

By default, all Research at UW-Madison profiles are set to private mode. To make your profile public:

  1. Click this link.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "User Login" in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
  3. If prompted, enter in your NetID and password.
  4. Click "User Settings" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
  5. From the resulting dropdown, click "Edit Profile."
  6. Scroll down until you see "Opt Out from Public Display."
  7. Click to deselect "I will opt out."
  8. Scroll to the top of the page and click "Save" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
