Researcher Profiles : Scopus Author Profiles

What are Scopus Author IDs and Profiles?

Scopus Logo

Scopus IDs are unique numbers assigned to authors who have at least 2 publications indexed in Scopus. Scopus IDs are meant to disambiguate authors, as a search of an author's Scopus ID will retrieve any publications associated with that ID in Scopus.

Each Scopus ID is associated with an Author Profile, which, among other things, contains the author's Scopus ID, metrics, and a list of the author's publications indexed in Scopus.

What are the benefits and limitations of Scopus Author Profiles?

Benefits:

  • It's free!
  • Automatically generated, with automatic assignment of publications (via Scopus' algorithm)
  • Links you to your scholarly contributions, in spite of name variations, name changes, or others having a name identical to yours (i.e. having a Scopus ID helps to resolve name ambiguity)
  • Increases the discoverability of your research outputs
  • Gives you access to citation metrics, h-indices, and other data based on your publications that are indexed in Scopus

Limitations:

  • Algorithm that automatically generates and updates author accounts is subject to error (e.g. there may be multiple profiles for a single author,  authors may have incorrect publications assigned to their profile, etc.) and thus requires occasional review
  • Edits made to publication list on your profile require Scopus's review and approval
  • Can only include publications indexed in Scopus

How do I get a Scopus Author Profile?

No action is required to get a Scopus Author Profile. Once you have two publications indexed in Scopus, an author profile and ID are automatically generated for you (no action required!).
