library.law.wisc.edu- your portal to all the law library has to offer online!
Ask a Librarian- ask a reference librarian for research help or strategies anytime by phone, email, or by chat.
Scanners- the law library has three flatbed scanners available for usage (2 in the copy center; 1 on the 3rd floor). You can request scanned copies of book chapters or articles and have them email to you as a PDF. To make a request for a book chapter or law review article, send your request to the law library's reference email: asklawref@law.wisc.edu.
Proxy allows a faculty member to designate a student (e.g., their RA) to borrow library materials in their name.
Important note: the faculty member must request items with their own wiscard number for any material to be picked up by their proxy.
When you become a proxy for your faculty member, when you go to pick up a book for them, you will show your own Wiscard and tell the circulation staff that you are a "proxy for Professor X".
ILL
ILL is inter-library loan. Inter-library loan allows you to check out books from libraries all over the country.
In order to check what other libraries own the item you are looking for, use WorldCat. This can also help you double-check to see if you might have missed the item in the UW catalog.
The ILL FAQs on UW-Madison's ILL page can help answer some questions you may have about the system or how long it might take to get your item.
You can also check your ILL account to see the status of your requests.
You will receive a notification email when your item is ready for you to pick up at the library of your choice (we recommend the Law Library!) or if it's ready for you to download (for a scanned article or book chapter).
Checkout
You must have your Wiscard in order to check out materials.
Most books can be checked out for a semester at a time (unless they are reserve/otherwise restricted items).
