ECOLEX is an information service on environmental law, operated jointly by FAO, IUCN and UNEP. Its purpose is to build capacity worldwide by providing the most comprehensive possible global source of information on environmental law. Database is word searchable and provides links to treaties and agreements.

WaterLex was an international non-governmental organization (NGO) and thinktank, setup as a not-for-profit association under Swiss Law. It enjoyed UN ECOSOC and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) consultative status, as well UN Water and Global Water Partnership (GWP) Partner status. It was a member of the UNECE expert group on equitable access to safe drinking water, and of the UNDP Global Water Solidarity platform and the Swiss Water Partnership (SWP). WaterLex also enjoyed governmental support, confirmed by ambassadors to the UN who were supporting the organization as members.

China shares 40 major transboundary watercourses with 16 countries. This paper surveys China's transboundary water treaty practice and compares it to the core principles of the 1997 UN Watercourses Convention (UNWC). Despite a growing watercourse treaty practice stretching back some 60 years, China's agreements in this field are relatively unsophisticated. The authors conclude that China's transboundary water treaty practice would benefit from some of the guidelines set forth under the UNWC.
