MS-Clinical Nutrition Library Resources : Distance Students-What You Need To Know

Distance Library Services

What are Distance Library Services?

The UW-Madison Libraries are committed to providing our students in online programs with the resources and services that are essential for their academic needs, regardless of distance or location. The libraries can assist off-campus and distance students with t. hrough the Distance Library Services.

Distance Library Services allow you to obtain library materials. Materials fall into two categories, "returnables", which must be shipped back to campus, and "non-returnables" that are delivered electronically and are not returned.

Returnable library items include books from UW-Madison and books from other libraries. To learn more about accessing books visit the Finding Books page of this guide.

Non-returnable library items include electronically delivered articles and book chapters. To learn about requesting electronic articles and book chapters visit the Searching for and Access Articles page and read "Finding Full Text".

Before you request something, check the Library Catalog or Citation Search. We may already provide immediate access online.

Accessing Online Library Materials Off-Campus

Off-Campus Access

The UW-Madison Libraries website is openly accessible and presents a wide range of electronic resources. Many of these resources are purchased for use by UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff. To ensure that usage off-campus is restricted to UW-Madison patrons an EZProxy Remote Access service is used.

EZProxy Remote Access Service

This remote access service:

  • Provides internet authentication for UW-Madison students, faculty, and staff

  • Confirms that you are a valid UW-Madison member and enables access to most library resources through your NetID

Using EZProxy Remote Access Service

In order to use EZProxy Remote Access Service you need to access library resources from the library website. This includes databases, journals, articles, and e-books. Accessing these resources from the library website will prompt you to login to the EZProxy with your NetID.

Your Login

You access the remote access server by entering your NetID.

  1. You must have a valid UW-Madison Photo ID to activate and keep a NetID account

  2. NetIDs can be activated at the NetID Account Activation page

  3. Once entered, this remains active until you exit your browser or are logged out after 6 hours of inactivity

If you access resources from the library website this is all you need to know for remote access. However, if you want to bookmark specific library resources that you frequently use you can set up a Remote Access Bookmarklet. To learn how to set this up visit the Remote Access Bookmarklet page.

If you need help with remote access or want to learn more you can visit the Off-Campus Access page.
