Guide to Indian primary and secondary legal resources (primarily federal) available at the UW Law Library and online.

State and Union Territory Legislative Materials - Electronic

The best source for State Legislation is India Code, a digital repository of central and state acts going back to 1838. Other useful resources include:

State and Union Territory Legislative Materials - Print

All states publish weekly gazettes in which state laws are published. For the most part, these weekly gazettes are not available for borrowing.

Current Indian Statutes has acts, rules and notifications for several states.

In addition, Memorial Library has an extensive collection of compilations of local acts, rules, regulations and notifications for the states and union territories. Most of these have either not been kept up-to-date or ceased publication, and are therefore useful for historical research only. If you would like a list of these resources, please contact Sunil Rao, Reference Librarian, at strao@facstaff.wisc.edu.
