HathiTrust Digital Library : Access

A introduction to using the HathiTrust Digital Library and HathiTrust Research Center for computational analysis and text mining.

Accessing HathiTrust

Members and Non-members can both access HathiTrust through the digital library's homepage. Access varies depending on membership status. 

Members:  Include UW-Madison faculty, staff, and students through an institutional membership. In addition to the access granted to all users, members get benefits such as: 

  • The ability to download full PDFs of titles digitized by Google (95% of the collection)
  • Access to advanced services for text and data analysis tools via the HathiTrust Research Center
  • You can access these benefits by logging in at the top right of the HathiTrust Digital Library home page and selecting University of Wisconsin - Madison from the options

Non-members: Includes individuals not accessing HathiTrust through a member library as well as independent researchers, journalists, and genealogists.

  • Non-members are able to download public domain and open access titles digitized by Google 1 page at a time
  • Access to basic services for text and data analysis via the HathiTrust Research Center
  • Individuals cannot become HathiTrust members

Because the items in the HathiTrust Digital Library come from different member institutions and projects, copyright status, licensing, and other contractual terms might impact access and/or further distribution and uses. Please refer to the following pages for information:
