Requesting physical materials for pickup
During COVID-19, the UW-Madison Libraries have a "Pickup by Appointment" service for borrowing physical materials from the libraries.
Find items in the Library Catalog from locations around campus, put them on hold, and then schedule an appointment to pick them up. We’ll get the books off the shelf, check them out for you, then have them ready for you to pickup from Steenbock Library or Memorial Library at your appointment time, safely.
This page has the details, including
- Which campus libraries are eligible for this service
- How to put items on hold in the library catalog (ie "How to setup items for pickup by appointment")
- Frequently Asked Questions (and answers!)
Don't leave this till the last minute!
It almost always takes three or more days for this process. There isn't a way we can rush it! So if you want to check out a book from the library, do so as soon as possible.
WorldCat
-
WorldCatWorldCat is a catalog of more than 49 million books, serials, audiovisual media, maps, archives, manuscripts, scores, and computer files owned by more than 9,000 OCLC member libraries around the world, including UW-Madison and the Library of Congress. More than 400 languages are represented.
Searching in the Library Catalog
The best way to find books for this class is to search the library catalog. The library catalog searches all of the campus libraries at UW-Madison.
Here's a helpful tutorial for you to learn more about searching in the library catalog:
Access Digital Books through the Library Catalog
During COVID-19, you may want to know if the library has online access to a specific book or to books on a topic you are researching.
Access books purchased or licensed as electronic books (Ebooks) by the Libraries
- Go to Library Catalog Advanced Search (This link to Advanced Search shows page for searching UW-Madison collections only.)
- Click box next to "Available Online" at the top of the page. (Note: This will bring up books purchased or licensed by the Libraries in an eBook format.)
- Click box next to "Books" on the right side of page under "Limit your search by."
- Type in your search using the boxes (for example, title in Title box, author in Author box, words for topic in Keywords box, etc.).
