LOCAL RESOURCES

UW-Madison has numerous departments, research institutes, centers, and student organizations that are related to food safety. The city of Madison, Dane County, and Wisconsin as a whole also have councils and organizations relevant to food safety and The Poison Squad.  

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

 

F.H. King Students for Sustainable Agriculture

  • Student-run farm collective 

Catalysts for Science Policy

  • Graduate student organization with goals that include educating grad students about science policy, preparing them for careers in the field, and engaging government and the public 

Science Policy, Outreach, and Communication

  • Undergraduate student organization that seeks to promote communication between scientists and non-scientists 

The Open Seat

  • A food pantry run by students for students 

 

MADISON, DANE COUNTY, AND WI RESOURCES

Madison Food Policy Council

  • Develops and recommends policies to the mayor that support Madison’s food system

Dane County Food Council

  • Explores issues and makes recommendations with the goal of creating a sustainable local food system

Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection

  • Partners with Wisconsin citizens to promote “quality food, healthy plants and animals, sound use of land and water resources, and a fair marketplace.”

Culinary History Enthusiasts of Wisconsin

  • Non-profit educational organization that focuses on food, ethnic cuisines, and global culinary customs

Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene

  • Wisconsin’s public and environmental health laboratory
