Digital Millennium Copyright Act
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) was added to the US Copyright Law in 1998, making it illegal to produce or disseminate technology, devices, or services that can circumvent measures (known as digital rights management or DRM) controlling access to copyrighted works. Even if it means that there is no actual infringement of copyright, it is still illegal to circumvent any DRM. Also, the DMCA increased the penalties for copyright infringement on the Internet.
