Finding Scholarly Articles
There are many ways to find scholarly articles through the Library. You can learn more about identifying and using scholarly articles by watching this brief tutorial.
On this page, you will find links to a few different article databases that are of particular relevance for this class. Some have a very narrow focus, while others will search more broadly. Your research topic will determine which type of article search is right for you.

Atla Religion DatabaseThe ATLA Religion Database is a comprehensive database designed to support religious and theological scholarship in graduate education and faculty research. The file contains citations from international titles and 13,000 multi-author works in and related to the field of religion. It also includes a full range of index citations to journal articles, essays in multi-author works, book reviews, and Doctor of Ministry projects from ATLA's print indexes: Religion Index One (RIO), Religion Index Two (RIT), and Index to Book Reviews in Religion (IBRR). Though coverage is from 1949 to the present, not all publications began in 1949. (Description provided by ATLA)

JSTOR The Scholarly Journal ArchiveJSTOR is a full-text journal database which provides access more than 500 journal titles in many fields. You can use the "Advanced Search" feature to limit your search only to materials related to Religion or Classical Studies.

Find Full Text from Article Database
When you locate an article in a database:
- Look for full text version: PDF, HTML, or Linked Full Text
- If there is not a full text version, click Find It button or Find It @ UW-Madison
- Click on link next to "Full text available"
- If full text is not available:
- Click Look for Print and Other Formats in the Library Catalog to search for a print version of the journal
- Click Request a Copy to request that an article PDF be sent to you
