- America : History and LifeAmerica : History and Life indexes and abstracts more than 1700 social science and humanities journals in the field of United States and Canadian history. (See Historical Abstracts for non-North American coverage.) Links to full-text articles are included when available. Books and dissertations are included.
- Historical AbstractsHistorical Abstracts indexes and abstracts information in world history and the related social sciences and humanities, excluding the U.S. and Canada. Links to full-text articles are included when available. It lists articles covering the years 1450 to the present, including more than 2600 periodicals published in 90 countries in 40 languages. (See America: History and Life for U.S. and Canadian coverage.) Collections of essays, conference papers, dissertations, and books are also included.
- Academic Search PremierAcademic Search Premier is a multidisciplinary database that provides full text for more than 4,600 journals, including approximately 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. A total of 8,500 journals are indexed and abstracted. PDF backfiles to 1975 or earlier are available for over 100 journals and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.
- International Bibliography of the Social SciencesThe IBSS indexes the information contained in over 2,600 social sciences journals and 6,000 books each year.
- ProQuest Dissertations & ThesesIncludes millions of doctoral dissertations in all subject areas completed at over 700 academic institutions worldwide. Some masters theses are also included.

- JSTOR: The Scholarly Journal ArchiveJSTOR is a full-text journal database which provides access to more than 1,200 titles in the fields of anthropology, economics, education, film, folklore, history, language, literature, sociology, and other subjects. Coverage begins with volume one of each title and continues to within 3 to 5 years of the most current issue, depending on the title. The "moving wall" represents the time period between the last issue available in JSTOR and the most recently published issue of a journal; it is specified by publishers in their license agreements with JSTOR.

Searching Within Databases
This tutorial shows you how to search for articles in article databases. It shows you how to use AND to combine terms, limit to articles from scholarly journals or by date of publication, use subject headings and abstract to find keywords, find full text of articles, and use tools to generate or export citations.
Search Tips
- Use AND to combine different words to find all those words, in any order.
- French Revolution AND women
- Use OR to combine similar words or synonyms or variations
- women OR gender
- Use quotation marks ( " ") to search words as a phrase
- "French Revolution"
- Use an asterisk ( * ) to find varied endings of words and singular and plural forms.
- femin* to find feminine, feminism, feminist
- Use a question mark (?) to find one missing letter
- wom?n to find women, woman, or womyn
- Look at Subjects to find additional keywords and use them to find relevant and specific results.
- Look for an option to limit to Academic Journals on the left side of search results in most databases
