Employment law pertains to the employer / employee relationship and is governed by statutes, case law, and regulations at both the federal and the state level.  Its scope also includes a wide range of  workplace issues such as discrimination, wrongful termination, unemployment compensation, family / medical leave and occupational safety.

Labor law covers the negotiation and collective bargaining process between employers and unionized employees. The National Labor Relations Board mediates disputes with these parties.
