Welcome!

Welcome to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries!  We hope you have a chance to use the tremendous number of resources we have available.

Members of the public are welcome to visit and use our libraries

This means when you visit our campus libraries in person, you may use both physical and online materials within the library, regardless of your affiliation. Please see our visitors' page for more information.

Borrowing and Using Library Materials

Please take a moment to review the following information concerning borrowing privileges:

  • State of Wisconsin public school teachers, public employees, Beloit College, MATC and Edgewood faculty, staff & students, and others are eligible for a Courtesy Card, issued at no charge. It will allow you to check out materials from campus libraries. Courtesy card holders can not use the UW Libraries interlibrary loan/document delivery services, or access our licensed resources from off-campus. (More information.)
  • Wisconsin Private school teachers, and other Wisconsin citizens not eligible for the Courtesy Card may obtain an Annual Fee Card. The privileges and restrictions are the same as the Courtesy Card holders.  Please see the annual fee card information page on the Libraries web site for full information.
  • State of Wisconsin residents may use their public library to obtain books and articles. Please contact your library for more information and to place a request. All state residents also have access to Badgerlink online resources, which you can access with your public library card.
  • Are you an Honorary Fellow doing research on the UW Madison campus as part of a program such as the Research Experience for Teachers?  If so, you should have received a NetID and WiscCard as part of your appointment.  This will allow you library privileges similar to the ones enjoyed by UW faculty, staff, and students (including interlibrary loan and off-site resource access) for the period of your appointment only. (More information.) Once your fellowship is complete, you will need to obtain a Courtesy Card or Annual Fee Card to borrow UW-Madison library materials.
