Aquaculture Web Sites

The Web sites below have been helpful to those looking at the general topic of aquaculture, as well as specific aspects of it.

  • AquaNIC  
    The Aquaculture Network Information Center (AquaNIC) is the gateway to the world's electronic resources for aquaculture information. Includes national and international information, electronic information available to industry, and self-paced instruction.
  • USDA Aquaculture  
    The US Department of Agriculture provides information on aquaculture research programs, data and statistics, market trends and monitoring as well as providing links to additional resources for aquaculture information.
  • NCRAC  
    The North Central Regional Aquaculture Center (NCRAC) is one of the five Regional Aquaculture Centers established by Congress. Their mission is to support aquaculture research, development, demonstration, and extension education.
  • North Central Aquaculture Regional Extension Facilitator  
    NCAREF is a user-friendly resource for current and potential aquaculturists of the North Central and Great Lakes Region. Contains publications, state Aquaculture Associations' contact information, references, general surveys, and announcements.
  • Sea Grant Aquaculture  
    UW Sea Grant has been delivering expert advice on aquaculture and encouraging the development of new commercial aquaculture enterprises in Wisconsin since the 1970s. The site includes FAQs, research, photos, and more.
  • Sea Grant Aquaculture Publications  
    Visit the Sea Grant Publications Store for additional aquaculture publications. Many are available as PDF files for free download.
 

Growing Power

Milwaukee's Growing Power, a community-based urban food center, is using plants as natural water filters for raising yellow perch. Fred Binkowski, an aquaculture specialist with the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute, provides technical advice on the experimental effort.
