What’s in Your Water Bottle?

Description:
You will interact with a variety of technologies to learn about more about bottled water while learning about some of the technologies used in libraries.
Technologies you will explore today:
- Clickers - handheld device for answering questions
- YouTube
- Jing - a screen capturing/recording tool
- Lib Guide - a tool to help beginning researchers access (reliable) information
- Article database – a tool to help find scientific and scholarly articles
Session Outline
Part 1: Taste Test
- You will taste 3 unknown water samples and guess which comes from the tap and which comes from bottled water.
- You will vote on which water tastes best to you.
- You will use clickers to tabulate results.
Part 2: YouTube Video & Pair Share
- You will watch a YouTube video showing different topics associated with bottled water.
- You will briefly reflect on the topics and work with a partner to generate ideas (pair share).
Part 3: Scavenger Hunt
- First, watch one very sort videos (produced in Jing) on how search for information.
- With a partner, you will use the Lib Guide and two database to answer scavenger hunt questions.
- For each question, make a comment on the Lib Guide with your answer and where you found it.
- As a group, we will review the comments.
Part 4: Large Group Summary Questions
- With your clicker you will answer questions relating to this session.
Part 5: How many M&Ms fit in a water bottle?
Part 6: Evaluation
You will use the Lib Guide "Evaluation" tab to answer the following:
- Write one thing you liked about this session.
- Write one thing you didn’t like about this session.
- Write one way you would make this session better.
